People Moves: Liberty Specialty Promotes Warren; GC FAC’s Smith to Miller; Everest’s Geddes to MS Amlin; Pro Global Hires; Generali Promotions

This wrap-up of international People Moves details recent appointments at Liberty Specialty Markets, re/insurance broker Miller, MS Amlin, Pro Global Holdings and Generali Global Corporate & Commercial.

Jane Warren

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, announced the appointment of Jane Warren as active underwriter for LSM. Warren reports to Phil Hobbs, deputy managing director and chief underwriting officer for LSM. Warren is based in London and takes up the new role with immediate effect.

Warren takes over the role from Peter Smith, who recently moved to an expanded role with Liberty Mutual Re. As LSM’s active underwriter, she will be responsible for managing Lloyd’s Syndicate 4472, leveraging the future changes at Lloyds to benefit customers and clients.

Prior to this appointment, Warren was UK Legal Entity managing director, and she will continue to retain responsibility for this role, leading the relationship with Lloyd’s of London and the relevant regulators.

Warren has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry in senior management, operations, re/insurance underwriting, risk management, broking and regulatory roles. She joined Liberty in 2019 from AXIS Specialty Europe, where she was chief operating officer.

Paula Smith

Re/insurance broker Miller has hired experienced market practitioner Paula Smith to join its Political Violence and Terrorism team within Property and Casualty Facultative Reinsurance.

Smith brings with her over 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry, and was most recently head of Political Violence and Terrorism at GC FAC.

Smith’s appointment is Miller’s latest investment in the reinsurance space, and follows the recent hiring of James Power as exposure analytics lead and the announcement that Miller will be expanding its reinsurance presence through the opening of a new Bermuda office.

Power has worked in the London market for over 10 years, most recently with Apollo Syndicate Management Ltd., and is a Certified Catastrophe Risk Management Professional. He reports to Mark Zammit, head of Analytics, and will work with reinsurance colleagues across Miller’s London and Bermuda offices.

Sam Geddes

MS Amlin Underwriting Ltd. (MS AUL), the Lloyd’s market re/insurer, has appointed Sam Geddes as head of Property and Allied Lines Division, subject to regulatory approval. Geddes will take up his role later this year and report to Andrew Carrier, CUO of MS AUL.

As head of Property and Allied Lines, Geddes will have oversight of MS AUL’s property division, which includes its commercial property direct and facultative, property binder units and auto business. His appointment follows a reorganization of MS AUL’s underwriting structure into three distinct units, including property and allied lines; specialty; and reinsurance.

Geddes brings more than 20 years of market experience to the role, with extensive experience of underwriting in both Asia and the United States having spent much of his career based in Hong Kong and New York. His most recent role has been with Everest Global Markets, which he joined in 2016 as deputy active underwriter. Prior to this he held senior roles at Tokio Marine Kiln and MSIG Syndicate 3210.

Global re/insurance outsourcing and consulting specialists Pro Global Holdings Ltd. has announced the appointment of Roman Claren as managing director, and Stilianos Kalaitzidis as new head of Technical Claims for Pro Global’s German businesses/entities.

Claren has joined from ALBAG Dienstleistungsgesellschaft für die Wohnungswirtschaft mbH, Essen, a subsidiary of Provinzial Rheinland Versicherung AG, where he held the position of managing director.

With more than 15 years’ experience in the insurance sector, Claren spent most of his career at Roland Assistance GmbH, working within claims services across motor, travel and building related insurances. In his role as the new lead for Pro’s German business, Roman will be supported by Robert Buchberger, managing director of Pro Insurance Solutions GmbH.

Also new to the team is Stilianos Kalaitzidis, who joined Pro in January this year. Kalaitzidis joined Pro from the reinsurer Deutsche Rückversicherung AG, where he worked as a senior claims manager.

Kalaitzidis has nearly a decade’s worth of work experience in the insurance and reinsurance sector, specializing in disability. In his last role, Kalaitzidis helped insurers position themselves strategically in the market and identify and leverage new market trends and technologies.

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) announced three key appointments. Reto Arrigoni is global head of Casualty Underwriting; Enrico Mazza is GC&C Italy head of Underwriting and Tomasz Kukuła is GC&C head of Underwriting for the ACEER region (which Austria, Central and Eastern European countries, and Russia).

Within Generali’s P&C division Global Corporate & Commercial, the following appointments and changes are made:

  • Reto Arrigoni has been appointed as global head of Casualty Underwriting, directly reporting to the global Head of Underwriting Hayden Seach. Arrigoni will be responsible for leading the casualty underwriting at global level. Formerly GC&C Italy head of Underwriting and with more than two decades of experience in the insurance sector, Arrigoni joined Generali Global Corporate & Commercial in 2014. Before joining Generali, Arrigoni worked for Zurich in Switzerland, US, UK and for XL Insurance Co. in Switzerland. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Zurich.
  • Enrico Mazza has been appointed as GC&C Italy head of Underwriting, directly reporting to the country Head of GC&C Italy Franco Franzoso and functionally reporting to the global Head of Underwriting Hayden Seach. Formerly GC&C ACEER regional head of Underwriting, Mazza will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence and profitability of the GC&C Italy portfolios, defining and implementing the underwriting strategy for the various lines of business. Immediately after his graduation in Industrial Engineering and Management in 2004 at the Politecnico of Turin University, Mazza started his career within the Generali Group in Toro Assicurazioni, initially in the claims department and then in engineering underwriting. In 2008 he moved to Generali CEE Holding in the Czech Republic.
  • Tomasz Kukuła has been appointed as GC&C ACEER regional head of Underwriting, directly reporting to the Regional Head of Global Corporate & Commercial ACEER Samuele Borghi and functionally reporting to the global Head of Underwriting Hayden Seach. In his new capacity, Kukuła is responsible for driving the GC&C underwriting strategy in the Austria, CEE and Russia Region. Formerly head of GC&C Underwriting at Generali Poland, Kukuła has over two decades of underwriting experience in the corporate and commercial insurance sector, specializing in underwriting governance and management of P/C large risks portfolio. Prior to joining Generali, Kukuła was engineering head of Underwriting at Allianz Poland. He studied at the Warsaw University of Technology and at Kozminski University. He holds a master’s degree in the management and optimization of insurance portfolios.
