People Moves: 3 Promoted at Carpenter and Marsh; Chesman to McGill & Partners; Millwater Heads Global Insurance at Acrisure

These International People Moves detail appointments at four brokers: Marsh, Guy Carpenter, McGill and Partners, and Acrisure.

A summary of these new hires follows here.

Leading insurance broker and risk adviser Marsh, and its reinsurance broking subsidiary Guy Carpenter announced three appointments to their leadership teams: Paul Moody, Dominic Samengo-Turner and Toby Wemyss.

Paul Moody

Moody is appointed UK CEO, Guy Carpenter, effective Sept. 1, subject to regulatory approval. Based in London, Moody will report to Dean Klisura, president of Guy Carpenter, and assume responsibility for Guy Carpenter’s UK property and casualty business. He has held his current position of CEO, Marsh Specialty, UK & Ireland since 2018. During his 22 years with Marsh, Moody has developed and led successful strategic growth initiatives in the UK financial lines and specialty divisions.

Samengo-Turner is appointed CEO, Marsh Specialty, UK & Ireland, effective Sept. 1, subject to regulatory approval. He will be based in London and report to Chris Lay, CEO, Marsh, UK & Ireland, and Lucy Clarke, president of Marsh Specialty and Global Placement. Samengo-Turner is currently the global head of Facultative Reinsurance at Guy Carpenter having previously served as head of Marsh Specialty, Asia, following Marsh’s acquisition of JLT. An industry veteran with more than 35 years’ experience in global and specialty markets, he also spent 23 years at Willis Towers Watson in several leadership roles before joining JLT in 2015.

Wemyss is appointed global head of Facultative Reinsurance, Guy Carpenter. Reporting to Moody, Wemyss is expected to join in the fourth quarter of 2021 and will be based in London. He joins Guy Carpenter from Willis Towers Watson, where he has been global head of Facultative for the previous four years. Wemyss has also served as regional CEO of Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa and CEO of Global Markets, International for Willis Towers Watson.

McGill and Partners, the boutique specialist re/insurance broker, has appointed Peter Chesman as partner in its Structured Solutions team, in the UK.

Peter Chesman

With 17 years of experience, Chesman began his career in 2004 at Aon on the graduate scheme and left in 2019, as a client director. During his 15 years at Aon, Chesman was responsible for risk finance consulting and captives, along with strategic client leadership.

Chesman will use his experience to focus on alternative risk financing and in particular captives and multiyear structures. As a partner in the Structured Solutions team at McGill and Partners, Chesman will support in the development of risk financing and risk transfer strategies for large complex clients and captives across multiple lines of insurance.

Since its inception in May 2019, McGill and Partners has undergone significant growth and continues to bring in expert talent to support in developing its market-leading products and solutions. The broker’s headcount has now surpassed 340 employees across offices in London, New York, Miami and Dublin.

Acrisure, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based global insurance broker, announced that Grahame Millwater will assume the new role of head of Global Insurance in London, effective immediately.

Millwater most recently was president of Acrisure International and Global Markets. He joined Acrisure in 2018, following the acquisition of Beach & Associates, a global reinsurance intermediary that he led from 2013. In late 2020, Beach & Associates became Acrisure Re, fully representing Acrisure’s reinsurance broking and corporate risk advisory division.

Prior to Beach & Associates, Millwater served in several senior positions over a 27-year tenure with Willis Group. He was CEO of Willis Re from 2004, and then became President of Willis Group in 2008 with responsibility for all the global and international businesses outside North America.

As part of this announcement, Jason Howard, current CEO of Acrisure Re globally, assumes the role of president, Acrisure International, and chairman of Acrisure Re, based in London. Simon Hedley, current CEO of Acrisure Re North America, will become CEO of Acrisure Re globally, reporting to Howard, subject to regulatory approval in the UK. Hedley is based in New York.

It was also recently announced that Mark McIlquham is joining Acrisure to drive the UK direct strategy.
