People Moves: Aon Reinsurance Appoints 6; TigerRisk Hires Edwards from Lloyd’s; Nexus Names Tan Head of Treaty; Riveros to AXIS Re for Credit & Surety

This edition of International People Moves details reinsurance-related appointments at two brokers: Aon Reinsurance Solutions and TigerRisk as well as MGA Nexus and AXIS Re.

Aon Transforms Reinsurance Solutions Team with 6 Executive Hires

Insurance broker Aon plc announced new global leadership roles in Reinsurance Solutions to enable greater focus on creating client value, product and market segmentation and regional reach. This evolution of the team is designed to create greater opportunities for existing and new talent in the firm’s growth journey and deliver enhanced solutions for clients.

Joe Monaghan

Joe Monaghan will assume the role of global growth leader and will have full responsibility for overall growth strategy. This includes developing innovation at scale and integrating practice groups, client segments, global specialties, capital advisory, securities and regional growth priorities and strategic growth leaders. He will also continue as CEO of Aon’s Public Sector Partnership.

Tim Ronda

Tim Ronda, president of Reinsurance Solutions’ U.S. business, will become global geographic leader and will oversee Reinsurance Solutions’ regional capabilities worldwide to drive scale while focusing on unique regional trends and client needs.

Nick Frankland

Nick Frankland will become chairman of the Insurance Consulting Group as the firm seeks to significantly expand its innovation, technology, consulting and advisory capabilities and deliver greater services and the full Aon United product suite to clients. He will formulate the business strategy and develop a long-term plan to further enhance capabilities in this rapidly growing area of client need.

Richard Posgate

Richard Posgate becomes head of Strategy to help shape the future of the business. His responsibilities include oversight of acquisitions and monitoring business performance to drive efficiency and growth.

Monaghan, Ronda, Frankland and Posgate will report to Andy Marcell, global CEO of Reinsurance Solutions.

Leonora Siccardi

Leonora Siccardi will become Reinsurance Solutions’ Chief Operating Officer (COO), having previously been Global Head of Operations and Client Services. In this new role, she will lead the development of Reinsurance Solutions’ global operating strategy and work with leaders to transform, innovate and scale the operating model to deliver growth. Siccardi will also continue as Aon’s EMEA COO.

Sarah Walker will oversee Reinsurance Solutions’ global legal and compliance support, assisted by Peter Banick and the subject matter experts across the globe. This is in addition to her current responsibilities as Aon’s Deputy General Counsel.

TigerRisk Hires Edwards from Lloyd’s to London International Reinsurance P/C team

TigerRisk Partners, the Stamford, Conn.-based broker, has appointed Tim Edwards as part of its growing London-based Property Casualty (P/C) team, serving clients in the UK, Europe, and wider international region.

Edwards is currently a senior manager in the Portfolio Risk Management team at Lloyd’s of London, and he will take up the position of EMEA Cat Analytics Lead at TigerRisk in October. Prior to Lloyd’s, Edwards was a regional director, head of Catastrophe Analytics for global clients, with Willis Re. He previously worked at Guy Carpenter and RMS.

The move is part of TigerRisk’s strategy of growing its London-based International Property & Casualty Reinsurance team, which services major global insurers and reinsurers in Europe, as well as other International markets including leading US insurers which have complex specialist broking needs for their International operations.

In January, TigerRisk hired experienced broker Juan England from Willis Re as Partner to head up London’s International Reinsurance P/C practice. In May, the company recruited Aris den Hollander from Willis Re to the London team. den Hollander worked in the Japan team for eight years and has experience of placing, structuring and servicing complex re/insurance programmes.

Nexus Appoints Tan as Head of Treaty

Nexus Group, London-based independent specialty managing general agent, announced the appointment of Tan Chai Foo as head of Treaty Reinsurance, Asia.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Tan will help to expand the existing structured reinsurance activities of Labuan-based Nexus Structured Solutions into more traditional treaty reinsurance business and will report to Nexus Asia Chief Executive Officer Anthony Egerton.

An Actuarial Science Graduate with a master’s degree in business administration, Tan has been underwriting treaty reinsurance across the Asia-Pacific regional marketplace on behalf of Labuan-based reinsurers for the last ten years. Most recently, he headed the reinsurance department and was a member of the executive management team of Progressive Insurance Bhd, Malaysia. Prior to that, he worked at Trust Re in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for more than five years, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Chai Foo will drive forward our treaty reinsurance business in Asia, including China, and will work with existing Nexus colleagues in Hong Kong and Labuan to develop and implement our overall strategy,” commented Gerard Pennefather, chairman of Nexus Asia.

“Chai Foo’s appointment follows on from and fits alongside the appointment of Justin Yeo as head of Asia, Nexus Accident & Health this time last year. These two experienced individuals provide a comprehensive and complementary reinsurance service to the marketplace across both P/C and A/H segments,” he continued.

Nexus established a presence in the Asia region in June 2015 and now employs 14 people focusing on delivering the specialist expertise associated with a global MGA. Classes of business already underwritten and marketed out of the Nexus offices in Hong Kong and Labuan include marine cargo, financial lines, specialist property, accident & health and structured solutions.

Riveros Joins AXIS Re as Senior Underwriter for Credit & Surety in LatAm

AXIS Re, the reinsurance business segment of Bermuda-based AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd., announced that Alexander Riveros has joined AXIS Re as senior underwriter, Credit & Surety, effective Aug. 23.

Riveros will report directly to Camilo Rodriguez, head of International Credit & Surety.

In this role, Riveros will be responsible for covering the Latin American market and will contribute to driving the business’ portfolio goals for credit & surety as well as fostering strong partnerships with clients and brokers.

Riveros joins AXIS Re following over 25 years in the Latin American re/insurance industry, most recently as a senior surety underwriter at Markel International. He will be based in Zurich.
