People Moves: Ed Bermuda Names Marsh’s Juul as Head of Casualty; Mosaic Hires Jones From Liberty Specialty Markets; BHSI Promotes 2 for UK & Europe

Ed Bermuda Names Marsh’s Juul as Head of Casualty

Ed, the London-based reinsurance, wholesale and specialty broker, announced the appointment of Kristina Juul as head of casualty, Bermuda. She will report to Colin Kelley, head of liability Ed Broking Bermuda.

Juul, who will join on Nov. 1, brings with her more than 13 years of industry experience, and has held senior positions in both the Bermuda and London markets. Most recently, she was senior vice president, Bermuda, at Marsh. Prior to this, Juul was a divisional director, casualty at BMS, specializing in energy.

A talented Bermudian with international experience, she will galvanize our casualty offering to independent brokers and their clients. A leading Lloyd’s broker, Ed is currently part of the insurance operations of BGC Partners and is set to join The Ardonagh Group as part of its acquisition announced in May 2021(subject to regulatory approval). Ardonagh Group is the UK’s largest independent broking group and a top 20 broker globally.

Mosaic Hires Jones From Liberty Specialty Markets to Lead Product Development

Specialty underwriter Liam Jones has joined Mosaic Insurance to focus on the startup’s global product innovation and insurtech strategy.

Based in London, Jones is senior vice president, head of Business Development. He reports to Mosaic co-founder and co-CEO Mark Wheeler and serves as a member of the leadership team. The role covers a broad remit that will see him leading activity to enhance existing coverage and address emerging exposures through the evolution of new products across the firm’s specialty lines. He will drive strong integration between underwriting and technology, working closely with all product units to enhance Mosaic’s pioneering insurtech platform.

With 15 years’ experience in the global specialty underwriting sector, Jones has worked in the Lloyd’s, U.S., and Bermuda markets. Previously, he served as head of underwriting strategy for Liberty Specialty Markets, where he also ran the financial lines, healthcare, and special risks divisions. He is a mentor in the Lloyd’s Lab incubator and holds advisory board positions at several insurtech companies.

“Liam has an outstanding reputation as a highly-regarded specialty underwriter. He is an innovator and strategic thinker with a strong sense of purpose, well known for his commitment to harnessing technology and the development and creation of new specialty products,” said Wheeler.

Mosaic combines Lloyd’s Syndicate 1609 with a wholly owned syndicated capital management agency, enabling the company to identify, source and underwrite business on behalf of itself and trade-capital partners. Its six select product lines launched to date include coverage for transactional liability, cyber security, political risk, political violence, financial institutions, and professional liability.

BHSI Promotes Browne and Maxwell for UK and Europe Leadership Roles

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) announced it has promoted Hilary Browne to the additional role of regional executive, UK and Europe, and Vanessa Maxwell to the additional role of country manager, UK.

Browne will work closely with Chris Colahan, head of UK & Europe, serving as deputy head of BHSI in the UK and Europe, and leading portfolio-level underwriting initiatives and business development across the region. She will continue to serve as head of Casualty for Europe and country manager for Ireland as she assumes the newly created role of regional executive for UK and Europe. Browne joined BHSI in 2019 and has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience.

As country manager, Maxwell will lead BHSI’s underwriting, claims and customer and broker engagement in the UK. She joined BHSI in 2017 as head of Professional Indemnity & Cyber Liability and ascended to head of Executive & Professional Lines, UK, in 2019. She will retain that role along with her new position.
