WTW’s Smith to Lead Chaucer’s Marine Specialty Division; NFP Names Beauchamp VP Commercial Lines; Insurtech BOXX Hires Steptoe as Global Chief Product Officer

This edition of International People Moves details appointments in at insurer Chaucer (in the UK), the broker NFP (in Quebec) and the insurtech BOXX (in Switzerland).

Chaucer Appoints Smith From WTW to Lead New Marine Specialty Division

Chaucer, the London-based specialty re/insurance group, has appointed Mike Smith, formerly director at Willis Towers Watson, to head up its new Marine Specialty division.

Smith has over 35 years’ experience working within the marine insurance industry, focusing on all aspects of marine cargo and freight liability insurance from both a broking and claims management perspective, most recently with responsibility for servicing a portfolio of global cargo accounts at Willis.

The appointment comes as the marine insurance lines at Chaucer are set to be repositioned to support product development and technology driven sector innovation, enhanced service, and future growth in targeted segments.

The following changes will come into effective in January 2022:

  • Marine Global will be led by Phil Graham, the incumbent head of Marine at Chaucer, and incorporates the London and International market lines of cargo, specie, hull, war and liability, and the ports and terminals portfolio.
  • Marine Specialty will be led by Mike Smith and will include marine protection and indemnity and transport logistics; the freight forwarder business in London; and Lonham, Chaucer’s specialty cargo, freight and logistics liability insurer, based in Ipswich, where he will be working closely with Mike Ayres and the underwriting team.

NFP Names Beauchamp as VP Commercial Lines in Canada

NFP, the New York City-based insurance broker and consultant, announced that Robert Beauchamp has joined as vice president, commercial lines, in Quebec, Canada.

As part of the team that came to NFP through its acquisition of Ogilvy Insurance, Beauchamp will focus on advancing NFP’s growth in Quebec. His career includes 17 years as president of Invessa, a leading property and casualty insurance brokerage firm he founded in 2001 as well as various marketing and operations roles with SimplAssur, Aviva Canada and CGU Insurance.

Most recently, Beauchamp consulted with companies and executives on business development and strategy in the commercial insurance space. Beauchamp, who brings to NFP significant industry experience cultivated over more than three decades, will report to France Dallaire, senior vice president, Quebec operations, for NFP in Canada.

Ogilvy Insurance, which NFP acquired in November 2020, is scheduled to rebrand as NFP in 2022.

Canadian Cyber Insurtech BOXX Names Steptoe Global Chief Product Officer

Toronto-based global cyber insurtech BOXX Insurance announced the appointment of Dominic Steptoe as global chief product officer. Based in Switzerland, Steptoe will lead the development and enhancement of BOXX’s products and services globally to support its aggressive growth objectives.

He will be responsible for setting the company’s product strategy, overseeing product development, user experience, product partnerships and innovation.

Prior to joining BOXX, Steptoe has held a number of senior marketing and product leadership roles in different geographies around the world. Most recently, he was head of consumer business and chief marketing officer at Swisscard – a joint venture of Credit Suisse and American Express, based in Switzerland. He led the growth of the consumer business and the development of market leading products and services as well as co-brand relationships.

Previously, he was at American Express where he led regional and global product and marketing teams in London, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore, and developed AMEX’s consumer and small business product strategy for its network partners around the world.

The appointment follows the recent announcement by BOXX of its partnership with Zurich Insurance, which Steptoe will manage along with other customer relationships in Europe.
