People Moves: Sompo Names QBE’s Reid Head of Casualty Int’l; AXA XL Promotes Shing to Lead U/W Mgmt, UK & Lloyd’s; Jensten’s Siggery to Oneglobal for Risk & Compliance

Sompo Int’l Appoints QBE’s Reid as Head of Casualty, International Insurance

Sompo International Holdings Ltd., a global Bermuda-based specialty provider of property/casualty insurance and reinsurance, announced the appointment of Mike Reid as executive vice president, head of Casualty, International Insurance. He will be based in London and report to Richard Housley, Chief Underwriting Officer, International Insurance.

Reid has more than 20 years’ experience in the casualty market gained across broking and underwriting, including both the company and Lloyd’s markets. He began his career with Willis before moving on to hold senior roles at ACE, Brit and – most recently – QBE, where he was director, International Liability, and a member of the executive management team for the international business. He has a degree in business economics from the University of Southampton.

Julian James, chief executive officer, International Insurance at Sompo International, said that Reid will lead an established team that diversifies by product and distribution, including delegated authority solutions to SMEs and an open market book focused on larger clients.

“Mike will have responsibility for building out our international casualty business, working across our operations in the UK, Europe and around the world, to deliver solutions that meet the liability risks enterprises face today and to foster mutually beneficial relationships with our clients and brokers,” said James.

AXA XL Promotes Shing to Head of Underwriting Management, UK & Lloyd’s

AXA XL announced it has promoted Olivia Shing to head of Underwriting Management, UK & Lloyd’s, effective immediately.

In her new role, Shing will be responsible for supporting AXA XL’s chief unrwriting officer (CUO), UK & Lloyd’s, in executing the regional underwriting strategy and ensuring continued profitability.

Shing transfers to London from AXA XL in Singapore to undertake her new role. She’ll lead a team of business managers, linked to each of the region’s underwriting units and be responsible for supporting them in executing their strategy. She is also responsible for the delegated underwriting governance team and the UK & Lloyds governance & controls manager.

Shing has more than 18 years’ experience in client servicing, distribution and operational roles in the UK and Asia, beginning her career with NFU Mutual in 2002. Most recently, she held the position of senior operations lead, Asia at AXA XL, having been promoted within the business several times since she joined the company (then XL) in 2014. Prior to this, she held positions at Willis and Marsh.

“As we progress on our journey to deliver sustainable profit in the UK, it’s critical that we continue to implement consistent underwriting standards, practices and procedures as well as robust governance controls,” commented Luis Prato, CUO, UK & Lloyd’s.

Oneglobal Names Jensten’s Siggery for Risk and Compliance

Oneglobal Broking, the London-based broker, announced the appointment of Lisa Siggery as executive director, Risk and Compliance. Siggery will report to Mike Reynolds, group CEO.

This appointment, subject to regulatory approval, will further strengthen Oneglobal’s international risk and compliance capabilities, said the company in a statement.

Siggery is a highly experienced insurance professional with more than 30 years in the insurance sector, over 20 of which in internal audit, risk management and compliance. Siggery has held senior leadership roles at Jensten Group (where she worked most recently), RFIB Group, Towergate and IAG, as well as further roles within Groupama Insurances and Aviva.

Oneglobal Broking is a specialist international broking company focused on the placement of open market and delegated authority business, across marine, aviation, property, casualty and specialty lines. Owned by financial services private equity firm JC Flowers, the business was founded in 2018 following the merger of the SSL and Endeavour insurance broking houses.
