People Moves: SiriusPoint Appoints Bernina Re’s Kull as CRO; Hiscox Names Breeze Interim CFO; Tysers’ Simpson Leads BMS’ Terrorism, Political Violence Team

SiriusPoint Appoints Bernina Re’s Kull as CRO

SiriusPoint Ltd., the Bermuda-based specialty insurer and reinsurer, has appointed Andreas Kull as chief risk officer (CRO), effective March 1, 2022.

Kull will be responsible for overseeing SiriusPoint’s enterprise-wide risk management strategy as SiriusPoint continues to strengthen its culture of underwriting excellence with an appropriate risk appetite in an evolving landscape of risks.

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, he will be a member of the executive leadership team, reporting to chief executive officer, Sid Sankaran.

Kull joins from Bernina Re, where he served as CRO and member of the executive team. Prior to that, he was the CRO and member of the executive committee at Tokio Millennium Re AG (TMR) and was previously the CRO of AXA Winterthur. His work experience also includes consulting as an executive director at Ernst & Young as well as risk management and actuarial roles at Converium and Zurich Insurance.

Kull is a member of the Swiss and German actuarial societies, with a CERA designation. He holds doctorate in physics from Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich, Germany, and a master’s degree in physics from the University of Bern, Switzerland.

Hiscox Names Breeze Interim Group CFO

Hiscox Ltd., the specialist insurer, announced that Liz Breeze will be appointed interim group chief financial officer, subject to regulatory approval, while the search for a permanent group CFO is conducted.

Breeze joined Hiscox in 2012 and has held a number of senior finance roles across the group, including group technical accountant, head of Finance for Hiscox UK, and most recently CFO for Hiscox Re & ILS. As part of the Hiscox Re & ILS leadership team, Breeze has driven significant improvements in both financial systems and capital efficiency. She is a chartered accountant, having trained with KPMG, and previously worked as part of its insurance practice in London and Bermuda.

In her new role, Breeze will work closely with Aki Hussain, group CFO and CEO designate, and take on the group CFO duties from Jan. 1, 2022. She will be based in London and join the group executive committee.

“Liz has a deep understanding of our business, having spent time in both our big-ticket and retail operations. She has also been an important participant in our work to embed structural finance change as part of our multi-year finance transformation program,” said Hussain.

Tysers’ Simpson to Lead BMS Terrorism, Political Violence Team

Harry Simpson

BMS, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, announced the appointment of Harry Simpson to lead its new terrorism and political violence team. The team will report to Chris Ritchie, managing director of international direct & facultative, BMS group.

Simpson brings with him more than 19 years’ experience in the terrorism and political violence field. Until he resigned to join BMS, he was director and head of terrorism & political violence at Tysers.

Simpson began his career at Glencairn in 2002 as a broker and worked alongside Chris Ritchie, who at the time was its head of international property.
