People Moves: WTW’s Swift Joins London Market Group Board; Carbon Underwriting Hires Antares’ Coates; Dale Underwriting Names ArgoGlobal’s Turner for Property

WTW’s Swift Joins Board of London Market Group

Alastair Swift

The London Market Group announced that Alastair Swift, head of Corporate Risk & Broking at GB Willis Towers Watson, has joined its board. Swift will be one of the elected board members chosen to represent Liiba (the London and International Insurance Brokers’ Association) on the LMG Board.

“Alastair Swift brings a decade of experience at Willis Towers Watson and will be able to give us valuable input from one of the largest organisations in the broker marketplace,” commented Matthew Moore, chair of the London Market Group. “He has also served as Deputy Chairman of Liiba for the past three years, and so has a clear understanding of what trade bodies such as ours can and should be doing on behalf of this industry. We are delighted that he has agreed to join the board.”

MGA Carbon Underwriting Hires Antares’ Coates as Claims Manager

Carbon Underwriting Ltd., the London-based independent managing general underwriter (MGU) and Lloyd’s syndicate, announced the appointment of Kirsty Coates as claims manager.

In her new role, Coates will be responsible for managing Carbon’s portfolio of claims, providing specialist knowledge and insights to ensure that the best outcomes are achieved consistently and efficiently for policyholders at all times. Coates will manage the data-led claims business plan across all product lines as well as supporting the senior management team in the execution and delivery of the company’s strategic goals and objectives.

With more than 13 years’ claims experience in the London market, Coates has joined Carbon from Antares Managing Agency (QIC Global) where she was a specialty claims manager with a strong focus on worldwide delegated contracts across multiple product lines. Prior to this, she was a claims adjuster with Atrium Underwriting.

Dale Underwriting Partners Hires ArgoGlobal’s Turner for Property Team

Dale Underwriting Partners (DUP) announced the appointment of Marcus Turner as a class underwriter, property insurance, effective Jan. 4. Turner will report to Ian Bridge, deputy active underwriter at DUP.

Turner will be responsible for building out DUP’s property open market business, an area of expected growth for DUP in 2022.

Turner joins from his most recent role as head of property D&F at ArgoGlobal, having joined the company in 2011 as an underwriter. At ArgoGlobal, Turner’s focus was on writing a portfolio of medium to large US property risks. He brings with him 30 years’ experience in property insurance as both a broker and an underwriter and has significant knowledge of the London market.

Turner spent the first 20 years of his career as a broker with JLT and RK Harrison, focusing on the placing and servicing of medium to large U.S. property clients including the setting up of RK Harrison’s North American property department in Bermuda.

Dale Underwriting Partners is an independent, owner-managed, Lloyd’s syndicate, led by Duncan Dale. DUP’s Syndicate 1729, which will have a 2022 stamp capacity of £210 million, focuses on property reinsurance, property insurance and casualty.
