People Moves: QBE Promotes Shallow as Head of Marine; Beazley Names MS Amlin’s Hunter for Open Mkt. Property; TigerRisk Hires Liberty’s Hodges for Analytics, Int’l

QBE Promotes Shallow as Head of Marine

QBE has appointed Kevin Shallow as director of Underwriting and product head for Marine, subject to regulatory approval.

Shallow is currently a portfolio manager within the marine division. Shallow joined QBE in 2005 and has more than 16 years’ experience in the industry, including time spent in Singapore developing QBE’s Asian marine business. Shallow has also been instrumental in recent years in the development of QBE’s portfolio solutions underwriting unit in the London market, driving significant growth.

In his new role, he will focus on further developing QBE’s long-standing marine business including the roll out and expansion of the marine product lines locally into Europe.

He takes over from Tim Pembroke who will be retiring on March 31 after nearly 38 years in the marine insurance industry, including over 24 years with QBE.

“I have no doubt that Kevin will continue to develop and expand on the legacy Tim leaves as a leading marine operation in the international marketplace and the continued expansion of the marine product into our European business. Kevin brings a diversity of insurance and marine experience to this role meaning he is well suited to lead the next phase of our marine portfolio’s development,” commented Peter Burton, Executive Director, International Markets, QBE European Operations.

Beazley Names MS Amlin’s Hunter as U/W, Open Market Property

Beazley has appointed Katie Hunter as Underwriter – Open Market Property. A seasoned property underwriter with over 20 years in the London market, Hunter will be based out of Beazley’s Bishopsgate office.

Hunter started her career at Brit before moving on to Ascot and most recently worked at MS Amlin as a senior property underwriter for Commercial Property. She joins new recruit Simon Wilson’s team at the end of February.

Commenting on her appointment, Richard Montminy, group head of Property at Beazley, said: “With the arrival of Simon last month, and Katie joining the team at the end of this month, Beazley’s commitment to its open market property portfolio is clear. Simon and Katie are both highly skilled and respected underwriters; I have known each of them for some time and know first-hand just how good they are. These hires provide the talent required to achieve our ambitious growth plans for 2022.”

Hunter joins Beazley on Feb. 28, 2022.

TigerRisk Hires Hodges as Head of Analytics, International

TigerRisk Partners LLC, a Stamford, Conn.-based risk, capital and strategic adviser to the global insurance and reinsurance industries, has named Joel Hodges as partner and head of Analytics, International.

Hodges will be responsible for overseeing all data analytics across all product lines at TigerRisk in a newly created role to help lead initiatives to improve performance across the international business.

He joins from Liberty Mutual, where he was head of Portfolio Management, Global Risk Solutions. Based in London, he will report to group head of Analytics, Nathan Schwartz, and James Few, chief executive officer of TigerRisk International.

Hodges has more than 20 years’ experience in the global reinsurance industry, including senior positions with Liberty Syndicates and Wellington Underwriting. He is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons 1st class) in Mathematics from Kings College, London.
