Ohio DOI Unveils New Online Service for Ohio Agents

August 4, 2000

Lee Covington, Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance, announced that a new online service provided by the Ohio Department of Insurance will help approximately 81,000 licensed Ohio insurance agents keep track of their continuing education credits.

Beginning July 17, resident insurance agents were able to log onto the Ohio Department of Insurance website (www.state.oh.us/ins/) or to Experior Assessments, LLC’s website (www.experioronline.com) and find their continuing education status.

Agents can find information about approved courses and other licensing requirements. CE providers can use the Experior website to provide class schedule and course completion roster information.

“This is part of the Ohio Department of Insurance commitment to fulfill Governor Taft’s goal of moving Ohioans from being in line to being online,” said Director Covington. “We have instituted a number of technology-based initiatives to make the Department more efficient and accessible, and this is the latest installment in that ongoing effort.”

Agents enter their Social Security number and an additional piece of personal information in order to log into the credit check. Insurance companies can check the status of multiple agents at once if they subscribe to the service. “The online system makes it easy and convenient for agents to verify their continuing education credits. They can also print a transcript,” said Assistant Director of Investigative and Licensing Services, Susan T. Stead.

“The online CE service is available 24 hours a day. In the past, an agent had to call during business hours.” Licensed agents must complete 20 credits of continuing education during each two-year compliance period. Agents who only hold a Title license must complete 10 credits of title specific courses during each two-year compliance period.

The Department recently unveiled an online agent licensing application process that, when combined with electronic fingerprinting for background checks, reduced the licensing procedure from a three to four month process to just seven to 10 business days. In addition, consumers can now file a complaint against an insurance company online or submit questions about their insurance by visiting the Department’s new website at www.state.oh.us/ins.
