Gould Named President of United Service Agency

Gary G. Gould, 54, has been named president of United Service Agency, effective April 30. He replaces Philip A. Harmon, who is retiring after serving as president of United Service Agency, Inc., since 1980.

Gould joined United Service Agency, Inc. in Oct. 1980, as the vice president of marketing. He held that position until Oct. 1987, when he was named executive vice president, his current position. A native of Rochester, Mich., Gould received a bachelor of science degree from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich., in 1975.He is a member of The Lloyd’s Kentucky Agents Association.

Phil Harmon began work as a claims manager with United Service Agency in 1971, having previously worked as a claims representative for Ashland Inc., beginning in 1969. He was promoted to positions of increasing responsibility, serving as vice president and executive vice president of United Service Agency, before being named president in 1980.

Harmon is a member of the Risk & Insurance Management Society. He is an associate member of the Southern Association of Workers’ Compensation Administrators, and an associate member of the international Assoc. of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions. He is also a member of the Self-insurance Institute of America, and a member of the National Council of Self-insurers.

He is a board member for the Good Samaritan Foundation, Inc., a independent grant making health philanthropy. United Service Agency, Inc. is an independent insurance agency located in Lexington, Ky.
