October 5, 2001

Following a thorough on-site review of its staff, procedures and performance, the Ohio Department of Insurance was recognized as one of the top insurance department in the country. Governor Bob Taft and Director Lee Covington during an Employee Recognition Ceremony honored Department employees who were recently awarded some of the highest scores in the nation by a National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Accreditation Review Team.

In July, the Ohio Department of Insurance underwent an accreditation review by a Review Team appointed by the NAIC. The NAIC Accreditation Review Team awarded the Department a number of the highest scores in the country, including the highest score ever given for quality of staff.

When compared to other states with a similarly sized insurance market, Ohio ranked first in the nation for its financial analysis process, surveillance of troubled companies, and overall average. The Department was the second-highest rated state insurance agency in the area of examinations.
