N.D. Commissioner Elected NAIC VP

December 15, 2003

North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman has been elected by his peers to serve as vice president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for 2004. The vote, by members of the NAIC, was held Dec. 7, 2003, at the NAIC’s Winter National Meeting.

Poolman said this election represents an opportunity for North Dakota to play an integral role in shaping insurance industry regulation on a national level.

“My first and foremost obligation and commitment is to North Dakota consumers,” he said. “As the business of insurance has become increasingly national in nature, North Dakota is best served by participating at the national level. As a member of the leadership of the NAIC, I will work to ensure North Dakota insurance consumers and insurance consumers nationwide, are protected by effective insurance regulations while fostering a healthy and competitive marketplace.”

Commissioner Poolman has been active in the National Association of Insurance Commissioners since taking office in 2001. He gave up his post as Midwest Zone Chairman of the NAIC to take on this new national role.
