Ohio House Passes Security Breach Bill

November 21, 2005

The House concurred with Senate amendments to H.B. 104 allowing the security breach notification proposal to advance to the governor.

If signed by Gov. Taft, the bill would require a state agency, person or business to contact individuals if unencrypted or unredacted personal information is obtained by unauthorized persons and if such a breach might create a risk of identity fraud to the person. The bill also authorizes the attorney general to investigate and enforce compliance.

If HB 104 becomes law, Ohio will become the 20th state to enact such a law.
