November 5, 2007

The State Auto Insurance Cos. today announced the names of individuals that will fill key positions within the company. One of those named was industry veteran Clyde H. Fitch Jr. who will lead the company’s sales and field operations.

Fitch, who most recently served as senior vice president of distribution and enterprise development for Travelers in Hartford, Conn., has more than 30 years of experience with Aetna and Travelers, where he led the development of field and sales organizations for both small commercial and personal lines. From 1996 to 2006, he was Travelers’ president of independent agency operations, overseeing personal lines sales, national distribution, marketing, and field human resources. Fitch also has considerable experience in managing merger and acquisition integration.

Joining Fitch as vice president of sales is John M. Petrucci, who had served as State Auto’s vice president of agency/industry relations. He joined State Auto as agency development specialist in 1996 after 11 years in claims and sales positions with Allstate. Petrucci has since served State Auto as branch manager and director of corporate sales.

State Auto also named Cathy B. Miley vice president, director of corporate development, and Steven R. Hazelbaker vice president, director of corporate enterprise risk management.

Miley, who joined State Auto in 1977 and most recently served as vice president, director of branch and regional operations, will work directly with Chairman and CEO Bob Restrepo in identifying new business development opportunities, particularly in the area of mergers, acquisitions and affiliations.

Hazelbaker served the Meridian Insurance Group as executive vice president, CFO and COO prior to the 2001 acquisition of Meridian by State Auto. Since then, he has served State Auto as vice president, director of branch and regional operations. From 1978 to 1994, Steve held staff and management positions with Coopers & Lybrand. In his new role, Hazelbaker assumes responsibility for the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of the company’s corporate risk management program.
