Mike Grushon of Thomas & Grushon Agency in Bellbrook, Ohio, was honored by National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) with the 2009 PIA National Professional Agent of the Year Award. Grushon received recognition during PIA National’s Awards Luncheon April 4, 2009.

Grushon was honored for his contribution to the insurance industry and the American agency system, participation in PIA as well as his commitment to the advancement of PIA and his community. Grushon, a long-time member of PIA of Ohio and an active volunteer, was nominated by his peers at the association.

“Mike exemplifies the best qualities of an independent agent,” said George Haenszel, CAE, executive vice president of PIA of Ohio. “He is committed to professional development, serves his community, always put clients’ best interests ahead of his own and will offer his time and advice to other agents.”

Grushon’s commitment to professional development and education is evident in his work as PIA’s Education Committee chairman.

He has also taken on several PIA leadership roles serving on the Board of Directors and as chairman of the Professional Development, Certified Insurance Counselor and Awards Committees. He has also given his time to serving on numerous committees through the years.

Grushon was PIA of Ohio’s Chairman of the Year in 1988 and 2004, Agent of the Year in 1991, Educator of the Year in 2002, Chairman of the Year in 2008, and was honored with a Presidential Citation in 2000.

In 2008 he was named PIA Chairman of the Year and was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award, but his accolades extend beyond his professional career.

Grushon and his wife, Debi, were named National Alumni of the Year by Florida College for their work running a summer youth camp for the past 18 years, where they take 400 kids to Walt Disney World each year.
