Lawmakers in the Iowa House have approved a bill designed to limit municipal liability if someone is injured sledding on city property.
The measure was approved 55-45 on Fe. 13. It was sponsored by Republican Rep. Chip Baltimore.
It wouldn’t remove all liability for cities but would limit it if people were injured on city property designated and designed for sledding.
If approved by the full Legislature, the measure would add sledding to a list of activities that cities are not liable for on designated city grounds due to their risky nature. Those activities include skateboarding, in-line skating, bicycling and canoeing.
The bill was sent to the Senate.
