Amerisure’s Taylor Receives Community Spirit Award

May 6, 2013

Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Amerisure Mutual Insurance Co. announced that Carol Taylor, vice president, counsel and compliance officer, is the recipient of the Community Spirit Award from Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) and its Affordable Housing Advisory Council.

Taylor received the award based on her dedication and commitment to helping Vista Maria, a non-profit organization that provides care, support, treatment and education for young girls who have been victims of abuse and neglect.

In 2011, Taylor was instrumental in securing a $750,000 FHLBI Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant that helped finance the renovation of Shepherd Hall Studio Apartments. As a result, the funds were used to convert an existing building, which is located on the organization’s campus, into a 22-unit dorm-style facility that houses young women aging out of the foster care system who need a place to live, help with finding a job, or needing a support system.

Taylor’s involvement with Vista Maria began in 2004 when she became a mentor. Through the years, she has volunteered her time in various capacities that allowed her to work directly with the residents. She currently participates in the organization’s DREAM program and is also an Advisor on the Vista Maria board.

The annual award is presented to an individual who has shown outstanding dedication to affordable housing and community economic development in Michigan. Judging is based on the nominee’s devotion to community spirit and action.
