Former Hylant Executive in Ohio Denies Trade Secret, Recruiting Charges

By | March 10, 2015

A former Hylant Group Inc. official denied that he misappropriated trade secrets and tried to recruit Hylant employees to Chicago-based Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc.

Todd J. Belden, in a March 4 court filing, opposed Hylant’s request for a court order barring him from trade-secret disclosure or recruiting Hylant employees or customers.

He was responding to the complaint that Toledo, Ohio-based Hylant, a provider of insurance agent and broker services, filed in federal court March 22.

Hylant claimed Belden, former president of the company’s Cincinnati office, violated his employment agreement and attempted to recruit a Hylant employee the day after he announced his resignation on Feb. 18.

He was also accused of trying to block the move of some Wells Fargo customers to the Ohio company during the last few months of his employment.

In his response, Belden said that instead of trying to recruit the Hylant employee, whom he had recruited from Wells Fargo, he simply met the person and informed him of his impending departure. He denied that he tried to block Wells customers from moving to Hylant or that he tried to solicit either Hylant employees or customers.

The case is Hylant Group Inc. v. Belden, 15-cv-00385, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio (Toledo).
