Missouri Insurance Dept.: Insurance Education Scholarships Available

Insurance education scholarships are once again being made available to Missouri high school seniors and college students, the Missouri Department of Insurance announced.

The deadline to apply for the Missouri Insurance Education Foundation (MIEF) scholarships is March 31, 2019, Applicants must be Missouri residents.

Four, $1,500 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who will be full-time students in accredited Missouri colleges or universities and who plan to enroll in insurance, risk management or actuarial science courses.

Four, $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified college juniors or seniors for the Missouri Insurance Education Foundation Scholarship. Selection will be made by the Missouri Insurance Education Foundation Scholarship Committee.

One, $2,500 scholarship, names for C. Lawrence Leggett, will be awarded to a qualified college junior or senior. Leggett was the longest-serving director of the Missouri Department of Insurance.

In addition, the $2,500 C. Donald Ainsworth Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified college student from the St. Louis area and the $1,500 Gustav James Lehr Scholarship awarded to a high school student from the Father Tolton Catholic High School in Columbia, Missouri.

MIEF was formed as a non-profit corporation in March 1991, to promote public insurance education. MIEF provides its services based solely upon contributions and proceeds of special events. The foundation is guided by an all-volunteer board of directors, which includes representatives from the insurance, legal, academic fields and from the general public.
