People Moves: Church Mutual Adds Stampen as Chief People Officer; Lau Now COO at Robertson Ryan; J.M. Wilson Promotes Mandwee, Hires Head and Durflinger

Pamela Stampen has been named chief people officer of Merrill, Wisconsin-based Church Mutual Insurance Co., reporting to Rich Poirier, president and CEO.

Stampen’s role will encompass all the essential elements of recruitment and retention – learning and development, organizational development, human resources, diversity and inclusion – and the leaders of each function will report directly to her.

Stampen is a results-driven leader with more than 15 years of human resource leadership experience and more than 10 years of operational leadership experience. Most recently, she served as chief people officer for Total Administrative Services Corporation (TASC), a nationwide administrator of tax-advantaged health benefit plans. She also spent 22 years at American Family Insurance in various roles, including vice president of Human Resources.

Robertson Ryan & Associates

Dan Lau, vice president of Operations, has assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer at Robertson Ryan & Associates, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Lau began his insurance career in 2005 as a commercial lines underwriter at West Bend Mutual Insurance Co. To further strengthen his industry experience in 2006 he completed his Associate in Underwriting (AU) and Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designations. In 2011 He joined Liberty Mutual Insurance where he was the territory manager for Wisconsin before starting with Robertson Ryan in 2014 managing commercial insurance placement.

He serves on the board of directors and is past chair of the Emerging Leaders Committee with the Independent Insurance Agents of Wisconsin.

As COO, Lau succeeds Gary Burton, who will remain on the senior management team as an executive vice president and as part of the RRA family for an extended period of time.

Burton has 37 years of experience in the business, 20 of them with Robertson Ryan. He will continue to work on complex claims, be involved with challenging risks and serve as a valuable resource on strategic projects for the agency.

Prior to joining Robertson Ryan, Burton spent 17 years with Aon Risk Services, four years as a Risk Manager and three years in public accounting.

J.M. Wilson

Managing general agency and surplus lines broker J.M. Wilson promoted Adam Mandwee to assistant fleet manager and executive fleet underwriter in its Portage, Mich., office.

Mandwee is responsible for strengthening new and existing relationships with independent insurance agents and company underwriters, as well as underwriting new and renewal transportation fleet submissions.

Mandwee has been with JM Wilson for five years where he has held various positions in our Transportation department. Most recently, he held the position of senior fleet underwriter. A

J.M. Wilson also named Amber Head as property/casualty underwriter in its Carmel, Indiana office. Head is responsible for underwriting a variety of new and renewal commercial property and casualty risks and maintaining relationships with carriers and independent insurance agents in Indiana and Kentucky.

Prior to joining JM Wilson, she served as a bodily injury supervisor to a team of eight adjusters for a non-standard auto company. In addition, she has over 10 years of industry experience in personal lines claims, including litigated files. She is currently working towards attaining her CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation.

J.M. Wilson added Kristina Durflinger as assistant transportation underwriter, also in its Carmel office. She is responsible for assisting underwriters with a wide variety of new and renewal commercial transportation accounts, as well as maintaining relationships with carriers and independent insurance agents in Indiana and Kentucky.

Durflinger joins JM Wilson with more than 14 years of experience in the insurance industry where she has held previous positions as life and casualty claim processor, auto material damage adjuster, multi-line claims adjuster, and casualty claims adjuster.
