Transamerica Makes Executive Appointments

Transamerica Insurance & Investment Group has named five insurance industry executives to key positions within the organization. William Tate has been elected as senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Co. and TIIG.Tate joined the company in 1997 as vice president, Central Regional Marketing Center. Previously, he worked for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies as vice president of marketing and for Northwestern Mutual Life as a producer and in Agency Management.

Also promoted was Regional Vice President James Bowman to senior vice president and chief agency officer for TOLIC. Jerry Paul, a seasoned Transamerica executive with more than 25 years of company service, has been named vice president, Special Markets. He moves to that post after having led the start-up of the company’s Western Regional Marketing Center, which became Transamerica’s top-producing regional office in 1999.

Named to replace Paul as western regional vice president, based in Pasadena, Calif., is James “Marty” Flewellen, currently a Transamerica general agent in Las Vegas. Flewellen joined the company in 1982 as a producer, and held several sales manager positions before becoming a general agent in 1999, the year his agency won the company’s “Premium Growth” award.

Also joining Transamerica is James Duff, III, who has been named eastern regional vice president, based in Charlotte, N.C. The former president and owner of James Duff Brokerage Service of Pittsburgh, Penn., Duff began his insurance career in 1986 with MONY Financial Services in Richmond, VA. He joined his father’s Pittsburgh firm — the city’s oldest brokerage-only agency — in 1989, and became president and owner in 1994.
