June 5, 2001

Capitalizing on CNA’s underwriting skills and MarketScout’s eInsurance distribution system, the two companies will provide independent agents access to a broad array of CNA products via MarketScout’s portal at www.marketscout.com.

CNA will be posted as the “Best of Class” insurer for 270 small business classifications, as well as Employment Practices Liability, Commercial Crime (including ERISA Bonds), Global (Passport/Worldpass) and Ocean Cargo (OMMni.com).

MarketScout is the exclusive gateway to the eInsurance market for members of the renowned National Alliance, the world’s largest professional insurance education organization administering the CIC, CISR and CRM programs. The National Alliance enjoys an enrollment of 109,000 participants. CNA and MarketScout will deliver products specifically tailored for insurance professionals enrolled in The National Alliance continuing education programs.

Bob James, CNA executive vice president, technology solutions commented that CNA is focused on utilizing e-commerce to capture quality business opportunities and added that MarketScout has developed an exceptional eInsurance delivery system, which connects CNA to the preeminent agents participating in The National Alliance programs.

Under James’ umbrella is the eBusiness Group, an Internet-based Technology, Marketing and Business Process Strategic Business Unit of CNA. This group focuses on executing key eBusiness strategies developed to help CNA evolve and become a market leader in the new Web-centric economy.

In January 2001, CNA launched CNA Central (www.cnacentral.com), an agent and broker Internet tool and resource center that presents a common face of CNA’s products, services and people. The initial launch of CNA Central began to pave the way towards achieving CNA’s goal of globalizing its existing branch structure, underwriting and information technology functions. On April 30, 2001, CNA launched a new version of CNA Central, which features enhanced functionality and provides agents and brokers the ability to conduct business online with CNA and complete web-enabled transactions.
