The St. Paul Cos. Forms New Underwriting Unit for National Program Business

December 6, 2002

The St. Paul Companies announced the formation of a new underwriting operation for national program business, an addition to its portfolio of specialty commercial business units.

The new business unit, Specialty Programs, will focus on large groups of policyholders that are national in scope and have similar risk characteristics such as franchises and associations. Current program business written by The St. Paul includes entertainment and leisure, personal watercraft, sports, service industries, equipment rental and retail.

“The St. Paul has a long history of insuring program business through various parts of our underwriting operations,” said Kevin Rehnberg, senior vice president, Specialty Commercial, The St. Paul Companies. “We saw an opportunity to grow in this area by creating a business unit solely dedicated to program business. Specialty programs will manage program business directly and act as a resource for this type of business throughout the company.”

The Specialty Program business unit will be based at corporate headquarters in Saint Paul and will be led by Jon Farber, vice president.

Farber joined The St. Paul in 1993 in the Special Property area. He moved to the Technology business unit in 1995 where he spent the next seven years in various management positions, most recently as assistant vice president, technology underwriting.
