November 8, 2005

Shelly Diegel has been elected chairman of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents’ Company Council of Executive Officers (PIA-CCEO) for 2006.

Diegel currently serves as vice president, Small Business Distribution at Zurich in Baltimore, Maryland, and has represented Zurich Small Business on the PIA-CCEO since 2003. The PIA-CCEO is comprised of senior insurance company executives committed to working to improve the agency-company partnership.

“We are pleased to congratulate Shelly Diegel on her election to this key position of leadership,” said PIA National President Ray L. Peretti, who also serves as executive liaison to the council. “The PIA-CCEO will benefit from her talent, marketing expertise and dedication to the success of professional, independent insurance agents.”

PIA-CCEO participating carriers include; AIG Agency Auto; The Central Insurance Companies; Drive Insurance from Progressive; The Hartford; Liberty Regional/Agency Markets; Main Street America Group; MetLife Auto & Home; Safeway Insurance Group; Travelers Property Casualty; and Zurich Small Business.

Since joining Zurich in 2000, Diegel has been actively involved in developing and implementing a small business distribution management strategy that supports over 11,000 independent agents. In addition, she was instrumental in the development of Zurich’s Small Business Customer Service Center.

Diegel began her insurance career in 1982, working in Personal Lines for a local Baltimore independent agency. After six years in several agency positions, she joined Maryland Casualty to lead their agency automation team, then moved to USF&G to begin an agency automation program. Shelly spent eight years with USF&G and St. Paul in various positions in technology, sales, marketing and distribution in Personal Lines, Small Commercial and Surety.

Founded in 1996 with start-up funding from PIA National, the PIA-CCEO identifies areas of opportunity in the agency-company partnership, facilitates dialogue between company executives and PIA leaders and conducts solution-oriented research designed to enable both agents and companies to profit from these opportunities.
