Gallagher Higher Education, InsureMyTrip Launch Trip Cancellation Program

April 27, 2011

The Higher Education Practice of Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc. (Gallagher), has created a new trip cancellation and interruption program designed to protect the financial investments made by schools, colleges and universities in their study abroad pursuits.

Designed and developed by the education group of InsureMyTrip, the program provides financial protection should an institution need to cancel or interrupt a scheduled trip due to an unforeseen covered event. Underwritten by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., the protection plan, called Group Navigator, is written on an annual, mandatory blanket basis covering all scheduled trips approved by the institution.

The Group Navigator base plan provides catastrophic coverage for weather, terrorism, natural disasters and state department warnings. In addition, the program allows schools, colleges and universities to select an upgrade in perils called “Harm’s Way.” This upgrade adds civil commotion, civil unrest, riots, communicable disease and protection in the event of deteriorating conditions in countries and regions already under State Department warnings.

To help school administrators in assessing world threats and keeping their students, faculty and staff out of harm’s way, the program provides complete risk assessment and consultation services through its authorized security risk firm.

“From last year’s Icelandic volcano to this year’s civil unrest in Egypt and the recent devastating earthquake in Japan, the travel risks to schools, colleges and universities and their study abroad participants is very real, and it is growing,” states Bill Powell, a director of Gallagher’s Higher Education Practice.
