People Moves: WCRI Adds Negrusa; WTW’s Atkinson, Pokora Move to Marsh; WTW Appoints Drummond, Romano

The Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) announced that Dr. Sebastian Negrusa has joined the Cambridge, Mass.-based Institute to manage its research programs and accelerate WCRI’s focus on new topics in workers’ compensation.

An economist and expert in labor and health policy, Negrusa has conducted multiple health workforce studies funded by the federal government, state agencies, and professional organizations. Other outcomes he studied encompass health care utilization and spending, labor market outcomes, and integrity of Medicare programs. He has published peer-reviewed research on the job satisfaction of health providers, substitutions across alternative sources of health insurance, the impact of military deployment on divorces, and the effect of federal subsidies on veterans’ demand for higher education.

Before coming to WCRI, he spent 10 years at the Lewin Group, a Virginia-based analytics subsidiary of OptumServe, as an associate director. Before that, he worked at the RAND Corp. as an associate economist. He has a PhD in Economics from Clemson University and a BA in International Economics from Babes-Bolyai University.

WTW’s Atkinson, Pokora Move to Marsh’s Senior Housing and Long-Term Care Practice

Insurance broker Marsh announced that John Atkinson and Michael Pokora will join to co-lead a new Senior Housing and Long-Term Care Practice for the U.S. and Canada. Based in Chicago, they will report to Jeffrey Alpaugh, Marsh’s U.S. and Canada Growth and Industry Leader.

In this newly created dual leadership role, Atkinson and Pokora will head a team of Marsh industry specialists responsible for transactional and advisory products and services that address risk financing, risk management, and human capital needs of operators and equity providers within the senior housing and aging services industry.

Atkinson also will serve as chairman of Marsh’s Chicago office, where he will lead civic and community engagement and support Marsh’s growing business in the Midwest working alongside the current leadership team.

Atkinson and Pokora join Marsh from Willis Towers Watson where they previously served as executive vice presidents and managing directors of the Senior Living Practice Group. Together they bring decades of risk management experience in the senior living and long-term care space.

Willis Towers Watson Appoints Drummond to Head Broking North America; Names Romano to Mid-Market Team

Insurance broker Willis Towers Watson announced the appointment of Jon Drummond as its new head of Broking North America. In his new role, Drummond will be responsible for leading the company’s North America broking operations and strategy, as well as driving the transformation of digital broking.

Drummond joined Willis Towers Watson in 2014 and was previously head of Casualty Broking for the North America Casualty Broking business. Prior to joining Willis Towers Watson, Drummond worked at Aon within their national casualty practice.

Based in Chicago, he will report into Mike Liss.

The broking leadership team has been further strengthened by the appointment of Matt Romano as its new head of Mid-Market Broking Solutions (MMBS) business which includes Differentiated Broking Solutions (DBS) facilities, Panels, Select Broking, Premium Finance, and the Homestead Group Captive. MMBS is a core component of its overall Middle Market (MM) strategy with businesses having annualized premiums approaching $500 million.

Romano joined Willis Towers Watson in 2007 in the Scottsdale, Arizona market, as a broker, before becoming a client advocate specializing in Healthcare. In 2017 he returned to broking to run several broking operations in the West Region.
