People Moves: Chubb Names O’Brien to Global Risk, Robic to Division President Posts; Zurich Appoints Way as Sustainability Chief

Chubb Limited announced that Fran O’Brien has been appointed deputy chief risk officer. Currently senior vice president, Chubb Group and division president, North America Personal Risk Services, O’Brien in her new global role will help support all Chubb’s enterprise risk management activities including strategy, management framework and related processes across the company.

Ana Robic, who currently serves as chief operating officer, North America Personal Risk Services, has been named vice president, Chubb Group, and will succeed O’Brien as division president. In this capacity, Robic will have executive operating responsibility for the personal lines property/casualty insurance business that serves successful families and individuals in the U.S. and Canada.

O’Brien has 35 years of insurance industry experience. Prior to ACE’s acquisition of Chubb in January 2016, she was senior vice president, chief risk officer of Chubb Corp., with global responsibility and oversight for minimizing strategic risks across the organization. O’Brien was appointed senior vice president, Chubb Group in 2016, a title she retains. She joined Chubb as an actuarial trainee in 1980 and served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility in actuarial, product development and underwriting, including chief underwriting officer, and worldwide underwriting manager for Chubb Personal Insurance.

Robic has more than two decades of insurance experience in personal and commercial underwriting and management. Prior to her current role as chief operating officer of North America Personal Risk Services, which she assumed in 2017, Robic served as executive vice president, National Commercial Insurance leader for Canada. She has also provided leadership across multiple lines of business and industry segments including leading the Canadian Underwriting Center and the excess and umbrella division for the region. Robic joined the Chubb Corp. in 1999.

The appointments are effective January 1, 2022. O’Brien will report to Sean Ringsted, executive vice president, Chubb Group and Chief Digital Officer and Chief Risk Officer. Robic will report to John Lupica, vice chairman, Chubb Group and president, North America Insurance.

Way Named Head of New Department of Sustainability Underwriting for Zurich North America

Zurich North America has named Mark Way as its head of Sustainability Underwriting. Way reports to Chief Underwriting Officer Brandon Fick and serves as a member of Zurich’s technical underwriting leadership team.

Way leads Zurich’s newly-formed Office of Sustainability Underwriting, where he is joined by Climate Director David Edsey and Emerging Solutions Director Jonathan Charak.

“The Office of Sustainability Underwriting will approach climate change as both a risk and an opportunity when it comes to establishing underwriting strategy and guidelines, engaging with our customers and working with sustainability partners,” Fick said. “This team will also lead a cross-functional committee that will bring together various disciplines to address Zurich’s sustainability commitment across all dimensions within and outside of Zurich.”

Way joins Zurich with more than 20 years of insurance industry experience and a focus on sustainability for the past 15 years. His most recent position was with The Nature Conservancy in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to that, he was with Swiss Re, where he worked with underwriting and the business units to create risk solutions to manage climate and natural catastrophes.
