Chubb Bolsters Leadership in its North America Commercial P/C Businesses

Chubb has changed the leadership in its North America commercial property and casualty businesses with two new appointments, strengthening its primary and excess casualty and multinational field organizations as well as key industry practices.

Effective immediately, Seth Gillston, currently Private Equity and Real Estate & Hospitality Industry Practice leader, has been named executive vice president of North America Global Casualty and Multinational Field Operations. In this new role, he will oversee field operations for these businesses in Chubb’s U.S. and Canadian branch offices. In addition, Gillston will work with the excess casualty team to deliver primary, foreign and excess casualty offerings for large account clients.

Gillston will report to Lou Capparelli, executive vice president of Chubb’s Global Casualty unit. Gillston will continue serving as the head of Chubb’s Private Equity practice, reporting to Matt Merna, senior vice president, Chubb Group and Division President, North America Major Accounts, and will remain based in New York, N.Y.

As recently announced, Bill Hazelton was appointed to a new role focused on a number of key strategic initiatives in Chubb’s North America businesses, reporting to John Lupica, vice chairman, Chubb Group and president, North America Insurance. In addition, he will also assume leadership of Chubb’s Real Estate & Hospitality practice, reporting to Merna. Hazelton will remain based in Whitehouse Station, N.J.

Gillston has more than 25 years of industry experience. He joined Chubb in 2000. Prior to the 2016 acquisition of Chubb, he served as Chubb’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice leader.

Hazelton joined Chubb in 2005 and has served in several leadership capacities. Prior to his former role as head of Claims, he served as Chubb’s Environmental, Excess Casualty and Construction Industry Practice leader.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Promotes Meyer to Head of Life Sciences

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has promoted Angela Meyer to head of Life Sciences in North America. She was previously head of Life Sciences for the Southeastern region of the U.S.

Meyer joined BHSI in February 2014, and has nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. She will continue to be based in Atlanta.

Hunter Joins AIG as Global Head of Strategy and ESG

American International Group reported that Constance Hunter is joining the company as executive vice president, global head of Strategy & Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in early 2022. Hunter will report to Peter Zaffino, president and chief executive officer, and will join AIG’s Executive Leadership Team.

Hunter joins AIG from KPMG, where she has served as chief economist since 2013 and as a member of the Growth and Strategy leadership team since 2020. Prior to that, she served as deputy chief investment officer at AXA Investment Managers, where she helped lead the management of over $500 billion in fixed income assets. She is an expert in macroeconomic and industry analysis and is recognized for being among the first economists to forecast pivotal economic events, including the impacts of COVID-19 on U.S. and other global economies, the 2007 real estate and credit crisis and the 2001 burst of the Dotcom bubble.

J.D. Power Adds P&C Executive Ellingsworth

J.D. Power has hired Marty Ellingsworth as executive managing director of global insurance intelligence. Ellingsworth will be spearheading the thought leadership sector of the global insurance intelligence practice.

Ellingsworth brings more than 20 years of analytics and insurance experience to J.D. Power and has served as a thought leader in data, artificial intelligence, and cloud at Celent (part of OliverWyman and Marsh & McLennan), an advisory firm at which he focused on insurance. He also held leadership roles in analytics with USAA, Verisk and Allianz (Fireman’s Fund), as well as a venture capital-backed insurtech offering text analytics and predictive modeling products. Prior to P/C insurance, he led analytics and network products in healthcare, and served as a scientific analyst while an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
