Property/casualty insurance professionals predicted the Cincinnati Bengals would beat the Los Angeles Rams in yesterday’s Super Bowl LVI.
An online poll a few days before the game by Insurance Journal.com showed 56% predicted the Bengals would win, compared to 44% siding with the Rams.
That prediction placed the industry at odds with the oddsmakers in Las Vegas, where the Rams were four-point favorites heading into the game, according to Bill Bender at Sporting News.
Of course, as the world now knows, the Rams won by three points, 23-20.
The industry’s prediction also placed it at odds with equity experts at Allspring Global’s systematic team (formerly Analytic Investor) who look at how often a team beats the odds of oddsmakers during the regular season. The Allspring equity team foresaw a Rams victory also, according to Investment News.
A sizable majority in the Insurance Journal poll, 79%, predicted the total points scored in the game would be under 60. Score that a plus for the industry prognosticators.
Of the total of 262 professionals weighing in, 41.2% were from independent agencies while 39.1% were from insurers or reinsurers.
