Applied Underwriters has spun-off United Risk as an independent, stand-alone operating company.
United Risk, which was announced in November 2023, is a global property/casualty underwriting platform comprised of 28 different managing general agent (MGA) and underwriter (MGU) specialized insurance programs.
United Risk has more than 30 offices around the world, including New York, London and Paris, with more than 250 insurance professionals.
United Risk remains affiliated with Applied and its related companies, enjoying partnerships with the other Applied affiliates, “which have proven, deep resources giving United Risk an advantage over its direct competitors as it develops on its own in difficult areas such as cyber security, IT development, artificial intelligence and branding,” said Jamie Sahara, president of Applied Underwriters.
Entertainment and sports; financial lines; fine art and collections; custom general, excess and property liability; aerospace, aviation; extended warranty; trucking; yacht, commercial auto; environmental; middle market property; credit ad political risk; oil, gas, mining and coal; and surety are among the special programs under the United Risk global umbrella.
The United Risk single operating platform was built up over three years to bring together the entirety of Applied Underwriters’ MGA and MGU businesses into a single brand. When the United Risk enterprise was first unveiled in 2023, Steve Menzies, chairman and founder of Applied Underwriters, said described the company’s approach for all of its businesses:

United Risk’s home office is located at 50 Rockefeller Plaza in New York. Applied Underwriters, which operates throughout the US, UK, EU and Middle East, has Its operational headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.
