February 23, 2004

The Central Texas Chapter of CPCU and the Austin Association of Insurance Professionals announced that the Central Texas 2004 All Insurance Industry Day and Education Recognition Luncheon will be held March 3, 2004 in Austin.

The keynote speaker at the luncheon will be Mike Geeslin, Texas Deputy Commissioner of Insurance.

Training sessions include:

· Ethics and the Insurance Professional: A great opportunity to fulfill state requirements for ethics training. This class is now required for all license types. Approved for two hours continuing education credit; instructor is Patricia Arnold.
· Director’s and Officer’s Liability: You are suing me for what? Discusses the major risks that are facing directors and officers today. Explores the definition of “who is an insured,” compares standard marketplace policies, exclusions, reporting periods, and how the claims process works from the notice of claim to defense costs and settlements. Approved for hours CE credit; instructor is Brien O’Connor.
· Employment Practices Liability: This coverage has become an essential part of a comprehensive risk management insurance program. The course examines the basis for employment practices liability and the typical insurance coverages available in the market place today. Emphasis is placed on evaluating coverage that meets the needs of the insured. Approved for three hours CE credit; instructor is Paul Martin.

New legislation effective Jan. 1, 2003 has affected continuing education requirements. Rules will be developed by TDI staff to implement this new law, but here are some :

· You must complete 15 hours of CE each year for a total of 30 hours to renew your license every two years.
· You must complete an approved two-hour ethics course every two-year renewal period.
· Agents and ISR’s who have been licensed at least 20 years are still exempt from all requirements. However, that 20 years must be consecutive, with no gaps in licensing.
· One-half of the required credit hours (15) must be obtained in a classroom setting or through a TDI approved equivalent.
