Bondurant Named IIAT Director of Agency Management

April 22, 2004

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas announced it has named Rick Bondurant III as director of Agency Management. Bondurant will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing strategic agency-management initiatives and programs under the new department.

IIAT’s board of directors authorized the position and service expansion in response to requests from members. He reports to Executive Director David VanDelinder.

“The addition of a talented and experienced manager like Rick will allow IIAT to develop new services for members that they cannot get from any other resource,” said Jim Berger, IIAT president. “Thanks to the support of our members, we can expand the professional staff in Austin to address problems all agents face in agency management,” he commented.

A veteran agency executive, Bondurant, brings to IIAT more than 25 years experience with the Texas independent agency system. Further, he is a former member of the IIAT board of directors and a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Tarrant County. He is also a former IMPACT regional vice president.

Bondurant joins IIAT from the Frost Insurance Agency, Fort Worth/Dallas Branch, part of the Cullen/Frost Bankers insurance division, where he has been senior vice president since 2001. He specialized in insurance and risk management, and management consulting. He was instrumental in conducting business development with the sales staff of both insurance and bank units and also directed the agency’s staff development programs. He served as transition coordinator between the insurance agency and Frost Bank’s corporate entities.

Bondurant joined Frost as part of the bank’s insurance division agency merger with his then current employer, AIS Insurance & Risk Management, Fort Worth. During the merger he spearheaded and consulted on various transitional activities. Prior to the merger Bondurant was principal, chief operating officer and marketing manager of AIS. Responsibilities included strategic planning, business development, and sales and human resources management.

Bondurant began his insurance career in 1979 as a file clerk with Bondurant Bros. Insurance Agency, a small, third generation family insurance agency which merged with AIS in 1994. During his 15-year tenure with Bondurant Bros., he worked in nearly every position, ultimately becoming managing principal.

In additional to his professional experience, Bondurant has been active in a number of education and community organizations. He is an adjunct faculty member and advisory board member of the University of Dallas, Graduate School of Management and a board member of the Arlington Independent School District Education Foundation. He is past chair of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Arlington Rotary Club, founding president of the Arlington Philharmonic and former host of Arlington Business Today, a cable TV show.

Among his honors Bondurant was named IIAT Young Agent of the Year, Arlington Chamber Member of the Year and Employer of the Year by the Insurance Women of Tarrant County.
