Buchanan Named Director of Market Development at Republic

The Republic Group, headquartered in Dallas, announced the appointment of David Buchanan as Director of Market Development for the personal lines operations of the group’s insurance companies.

Buchanan will be responsible for expanding Republic’s business opportunities within its regional footprint through product and market development.

Buchanan most recently served in key marketing and underwriting roles at Texas Select Lloyds Insurance Company. Prior to that position, he had served as vice president at Southeast Surplus General Agency in Beaumont, Texas, and assistant vice president of Marketing for National Lloyds Insurance Company in Waco, Texas.

Parker Rush, president and CEO of Republic Underwriters Insurance Company, Republic’s lead insurance company, stated, “David has an intimate, insider’s knowledge of the independent agency business in Texas and the surrounding states. He knows this marketplace and its agents very, very well. We believe David can help us to further establish our position as the regional carrier of choice for independent agents.”

Buchanan will report to Steve Nyberg, vice president of Personal Lines, who stated, “David joins us at a perfect time to help us take advantage of opportunities resulting from market disruption we believe is coming in certain sectors. The financial difficulties of some regional carriers are well known and many national carriers are re-examining their commitment to Texas property following the recent Gulf Coast hurricanes.”

Through its subsidiaries and affiliates headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Republic provides personal and commercial property and casualty insurance products to individuals and small to medium-size businesses located primarily in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
