Loftis Named Head of Governmental Affairs at IIAT

March 29, 2006

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas announced that H. Lee Loftis has been named director of governmental affairs. Loftis will be responsible for representing the interests of the statewide association in both the legislative and regulatory arenas.

“Lee brings a clear agent perspective to the issues we face in Texas and at the national level,” said Randy Reynolds, IIAT president. “He will be an excellent addition to our professional staff in Austin. I am confident that his experience, talent and knowledge of the industry will be a great asset to our organization.”

Loftis joins the IIAT staff from the Bergfeld Agency in Tyler. Prior to that affiliation he was president of Frost Insurance Agency, Austin, one of the 10 largest independent agencies in the state. He joined Frost from Nieman Hanks Puryear in Austin where he had been chief operating officer. He began his insurance career in 1977 with Lindsey Newsom in Lubbock.

Loftis holds a BBA in marketing from Texas Tech University and the Certified Insurance Counselor designation.

“Lee brings a strong credibility to the critical position of governmental affairs director,” said David VanDelinder, executive director. “His wide ranging experience with volunteer leadership will be invaluable.” Loftis is a past Young Agent of the Year and was IIAT president in 1993.

Loftis will begin his responsibilities April 1 following the resignation of Bo Gilbert, who has joined USAA as vice president of government and industry affairs in San Antonio.

IIAT recently named Lea Brimberry to the new position of governmental affairs manager. Brimberry will be responsible for managing the association’s political action program and for issues analysis.

She joins IIAT from the Texas comptroller’s office where she had been an issues analyst. She will report to Loftis. Brimberry is the daughter of John Brimberry, IIAT past president, of Frost Insurance Agency, Victoria.
