Texas Agents Group Elects Hempkins President for 2006-07

Robert W. Hempkins, founding principal of Hempkins Insurance, Denison, Texas, was elected president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas for 2006-2007 and sworn in during IIAT’s 109th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Houston. His term begins Sept. 1.

“Robert continues to distinguish himself as not only a valued member of this association’s leadership team, but also as a leading professional in our industry and throughout the business community. I plan to rely on Robert’s executive talents and his broad experience with IIAT, which will continue to be of great benefit to all of us and to the independent agency system. I eagerly look forward to working with him as president of this association,” said David VanDelinder, IIAT executive director.

Hempkins served as president-elect last year and before that as vice president and as a member of the board of directors for three years. He has also served in many capacities on IIAT committees including service as chairman of the Committee on Small and Rural Agencies. He is a member of Grayson County Local Insurance Association.

Hempkins began his insurance career as a representative of the Employers of Texas Company. Following that, he founded the Hempkins Insurance Agency in 1981.

He has held numerous positions on several company agency leadership councils and is active in a number of business, civic and community organizations. He is former mayor pro tem of Denison.

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas is one of the nation’s largest state associations of independent insurance agencies. More than 1,700 agencies representing a network of some 13,000 agents and their employees are members. An active advocate on behalf of independent agents before legislative, regulatory and judicial bodies, IIAT is affiliated with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America.
