CorVel Certified as Texas Workers’ Compensation HCN

July 20, 2006

CorVel Corporation announced that its health care network (HCN) has been certified by the Texas Department of Insurance’s Division of Workers’ Compensation.

In preparation for its certification, CorVel established a broad network of preferred healthcare providers whose practices have an occupational injury focus. The CorVel HCN offers medical discounts to participating employers, in addition to defined utilization review and return to work guidelines.

Texas House Bill 7, a workers’ compensation regulatory reform bill passed by the Texas Legislature in 2005, requires injured employees to utilize designated provider networks to treat work-related injuries, thus improving outcomes with increased return-to-work. So far, four networks have been certified: Corvel Healthcare Corporation/Corcare; Concentra HCN; Memorial Hermann Health Network Providers Inc./Worklink; and Texas Star Network/Concentra.

CorVel said its program helps employers maximize benefits under the newly legislated workers’ compensation reforms through patient channeling and utilization controls. The program is fully integrated with the company’s state-approved Utilization Management program and can be accessed through the Company’s proprietary healthcare management portal, www.caremc.com.

The CorVel HCN is available via an online directory on the company’s Web site, www.corvel.com. The online provider look-up allows customers to print a list of providers based upon their specific geographic location and the desired physician specialties. The company also offers a centralized HCN call center that is designed to address employee questions regarding provider selection and treatment guidelines. The toll free call center will also be available for network inquiries, such as pre-authorization requests, changes in treating provider requests, and network provider nominations.

CorVel Corporation is an independent, nationwide provider of healthcare management services in the worker’s compensation, group health, auto and disability insurance markets. The company provides solutions for employers, government entities, insurance companies and third party administrators. In addition to the company’s network of preferred providers, its nationwide branch network delivers case management, utilization management, independent medical evaluations, medical bill review and disability management programs.
