IIAT’s Joe Vincent Management Seminar, Legislative Day set for Jan. 28-30

January 9, 2007

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas will host its 44th Annual Joe Vincent Management Seminar and Big I Legislative Day in Austin Jan. 28-30.

The three-day conference includes an industry preview and legislative update of 2007 issues and market changes, as well as two general sessions and a wide range of technical and management workshops. Many workshops are eligible for CE credit.

Leading the Jan. 29 general presentations is Steve Donahue, who relates the gripping tale of his solo journey across the Sahara Desert as a metaphor for working in a dynamic environment where we get lost, stuck and chase mirages. Donahue is an international best-selling author and award-winning speaker.

Donahue is followed by Bob Rusbuldt, CEO of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, and David VanDelinder, executive director of IIAT, who team up to discuss the future of agency contingency income.

The conference provides opportunities for independent agents to not only hear national speakers, but also to network with peers, compare operations, hear the latest information on industry issues, and attend management sessions. Topics presented by subject-matter experts include using the Internet to find and qualify prospects, managing the digital overload of e-mail and document retention and destruction, meaningful mentoring and tough terminations.

A complete conference brochure and registration information is available online at iiat.org.

Free copies of IIAT publications will be available to attendees. Included are: Texas Agency Financial Benchmark Study, Best Practices in Certificate Management, and Profiles of Success – Producer Development Program Graduate Survey.

The Jan. 30 morning sessions are followed the Big I Legislative Day. Held only during Legislative session years, this event gives independent agents the opportunity to meet one-on-one with their legislators in the Capitol to discuss both local and state insurance-related issues. An agent-legislator luncheon follows at the U. T. Frank Erwin Center.

Ray Perryman, The Perryman Group president, Big I Legislative Day luncheon speaker, will discuss key findings of the IIAT-commissioned, “Coastal Economic Impact Study.” Conducted by The Perryman Group, the study examines the extent to which the Texas coastal economy impacts all of Texas and it looks at a range of potential economic disruptions that could result from major hurricane disasters.

The seminar is named in honor of longtime IIAT member and past president Joe E. Vincent.
