Texas Agent William C. Barmore Passes

Retired Texas independent insurance agent William C. (Bill) Barmore, Jr., age 81, and a resident of Pasadena, Texas, passed away Aug. 23, 2008.

Barmore was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Cameron, Texas, to Cecil and Selma (Klatt) Barmore. He graduated from Hearne High School in 1944 as class valedictorian, served in World War II and after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1949. He married Muriel Adele Floyd in 1950, and they settled in the Houston area.

Barmore entered the insurance industry in 1952 and with the help of Muriel typing the insurance policies at night that he sold during the day. He built Barmore Insurance Agency, a business that is still thriving to this day under the ownership and management of his sons, Mike and Bill. He was well respected in the insurance industry during his long career in the business, serving on the board of the Independent Insurance Agents of Houston and on many industry and insurance company advisory boards and councils.

Barmore was active in the communities in which he lived, serving as president of the Pasadena Jaycee organization, president of the Marble Falls Rotary Club, a 57 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner for over 50 years, and he was very proud of his 40 years of perfect attendance in the Rotary Clubs of Pasadena and Marble Falls, respectively. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena for over 50 years, serving on the administrative board and teaching both youth and adult Sunday School classes for many years. He was an avid supporter of his sons’ athletic and scholastic achievements and coached Pee Wee and Little League baseball for 11 years.

Bill Barmore is survived by his wife of 58 years, Muriel Barmore, his brother, Robert Barmore, his sons and daughters in law, Mike and Anna Barmore, Bill and Jackie Barmore and Jim and Peggy Barmore, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
