Former Mississippi Commissioner Featured at Texas Agents Event

December 23, 2008

The nation’s longest serving insurance commissioner, former Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale, will share his unique post-Katrina insights on the regulatory challenges in the aftermath of large-scale disasters to a Texas-based audience next month at the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas’ 46th Annual Joe Vincent Management Seminar & Big I Legislative Day.

Dale will be among the many speakers at the Jan. 25-27 event, held annually to focus on agency management issues.

Harry Beckwith, who has advised 26 Fortune 200 companies including Target, Wells Fargo and Microsoft, is the conference’s keynote speaker. Beckwith, author of the best selling book “Selling the Intangible,” will reveal his secrets for branding and positioning intangible services.

The three-day seminar provides opportunities for agents to hear national speakers, compare operations with other agents, learn the latest information on industry issues, network with peers from across the state and attend sessions targeted to specific management interest areas.

Session topics cover using technology; moving from wishing and hoping to leading and selling; marketing your agency online; the value-driven hiring process; agency financing options; lessons from Ike and Dolly; producer productivity; IIAT’s new recruiting and hiring tools; what the financial crisis means for insurance markets; finding untapped sources of revenues; incentive compensation for non-production employees and harnessing the power of collaborative teams. Attendees can earn up to 6.5 hours of CE credit.

Complete session details, online registration and lists of attendees can be found online at http://iiat.org.

The event is named for Joe Vincent, an IIAT award-winning agent and former president of the Texas Association of Insurance Agents, who founded the IIAT agency management seminar more than 45 years ago.

The Big I Legislative Day, Jan. 27, will focus on the top insurance-related issues facing the legislature this session and features face-to-face meetings with legislators from the constituent’s area. A luncheon will be provided at the AT&T Conference Center at UT for attendees and legislators.
