Texas Selects NCCI as Sole Collector of Workers’ Comp Data

March 6, 2009

The Texas Department of Insurance Division of Workers’ Compensation (TDI-DWC) announced it has designated a single data collection agent, the National Council on Compensation Insurance Inc. (NCCI), to collect workers’ compensation Proof of Coverage (POC) information.

Beginning June 2, 2009, all insurance companies licensed to write workers’ compensation insurance in Texas will be required to submit their proof of coverage information to NCCI. Insurance companies that currently submit POC information to NCCI will not be affected by this change. However, insurance companies that do not currently submit POC information to NCCI should contact NCCI immediately to begin the process of transitioning this data reporting in order to remain in compliance with the department’s data reporting requirements.

Submission of POC information to NCCI fulfills the requirement of providing insurance coverage information to the department only if the submitted information is accurate, complete, and consistent with the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions’ (IAIABC) POC reporting format for Texas.

Insurance companies may access the POC Compliance Guide for Texas as well as the IAIABC’s POC Data Element Reporting Requirements for Texas (circulars POC 02-05 & POC 02-06) on NCCI’s Web site at: www.ncci.com/nccimain/pages/default.aspx.

Insurance companies that need assistance in transitioning POC reporting from another vendor to NCCI, as well as new insurance companies that need assistance to begin reporting POC information to NCCI, may contact Amy Royce with NCCI at (561) 893-1066 or by e-mail at amy royce@ncci.com.
