Texas Agents to Lend Helping Hand to Houston’s KIPP PEACE Campus

June 14, 2011

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) and its Trusted Choice agencies, insurance representatives and other insurance professionals from across the state will gather in Houston, June 22-24, for IIAT’s 114th Annual Conference & Trade Show.

This year’s Annual Conference gives those in attendance a unique opportunity to get involved and make a difference in the community. On June 22, a volunteer work team led by IIAT’s Young Agents will help beautify the campus of Houston’s new KIPP PEACE Elementary School. Volunteers will paint classrooms, landscape and perform other maintenance tasks to prepare the school for its opening later this summer.

A check presentation ceremony at the KIPP PEACE campus kicks off the event at 11:30 a.m.

Located at 5400 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., KIPP PEACE Elementary School is the eighth KIPP early childhood and elementary school in Houston. As an open-enrollment public charter school, KIPP PEACE in its founding year will serve 120 Kindergarten students in the Third Ward community.

PEACE stands for Protect your team, family, school and environment; Endure life challenges; Act like a leader; Commit to keeping promises; Explore new places, new people and new ideas.

This is the third year that IIAT has organized a community service project during its annual conference. Last year, conference attendees volunteered for the day at the ACH Child and Family Services residential care facility for at-risk youth in Fort Worth.

“We had a great response from the volunteers who participated last year. Many commented that the community service project was the most rewarding aspect of the conference,” said David VanDelinder, IIAT’s executive director.
