Thousands Lose Electricity in Texas Thunderstorms

More than 20,000 homes and businesses lost electricity after storms rolled through parts of Texas.

Utility officials say the largest outage area Wednesday was near Houston, in north Harris and Montgomery counties.

CenterPoint Energy reports more than 15,000 customers without power after storms late Tuesday left behind downed trees and minor building damage.

Oncor (ON’-kor) Electric crews worked to restore power to about 5,100 customers from Wichita Falls to the Dallas area and down to Temple.

West Texas also suffered scattered outages, with AEP reporting about 750 customers without electricity Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says a chance of showers lingered Wednesday in the Amarillo, Austin, Bryan-College Station, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas.
