Semitrailer Wrecks in Texas Panhandle Caused by High Winds

August 26, 2014

Texas authorities say strong winds in the Texas Panhandle have caused the rollovers of two highway semitrailers.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman tells the Amarillo Globe-News that two people were injured in a wreck Sunday afternoon near Goodnight. Another semitrailer crashed near Claude less than an hour later.

He says both accidents were weather-related.

A National Weather Service meteorologist says thunderstorm wind gusts were at speeds of up to 70 mph at the time.

The spokesman says a man and a woman were hospitalized after the first wreck. Their conditions are unclear, but he says the injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured.
