16 Higher Ed Students Land Scholarships from Insurance Council of Texas

December 5, 2014

Sixteen students at four Texas universities were recently awarded a total of $32,000 in academic scholarships from the Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation.

The ICT announced that the students attend St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Baylor University in Waco, the University of North Texas in Denton and the University of Texas at Austin.

Each student received a scholarship as well as an invitation to attend ICT’s annual Mid-Year Symposium in Austin where insurance industry leaders gather to hear an update on the Texas marketplace. Each year, 100 percent of the Mid-Year Symposium sponsorships, company and individual donations go toward the ICT scholarships and school funding.

Tony Gonzalez, president of the ICT Education Foundation, said he is honored to award these outstanding students who are interested in an insurance career.

“I couldn’t think of a better time for college students to consider working in the insurance industry,” said Gonzalez. “The increasing number of job opportunities and excellent starting pay has finally gotten the attention of students who are nearing graduation.”

ICT scholarship recipients at St. Mary’s University under Dr. David Sommer were Leanne Fuentes, Claudia Gonzales, Mark Perez, Gabriela Diaz and Andrew Morlet.

ICT scholarship recipients at the University of North Texas under Dr. Enya He and professor Debra Richardson were Angela Beebe, Mycah Kellogg, Derek Dzik, Malorie Toth and Rae-Ann Hughes

ICT scholarship recipients at Baylor University under Dr. Jim Garven were Ryan Goodwin, Rachel Shriver, James Sawyer and Elisabeth Kappelmann.

ICT scholarships at the University of Texas at Austin under Dr. Pat Brockett were Avery Michelle Eyster and Elena Kathleen Walker.

The Insurance Council of Texas Education Foundation has awarded $725,000 to ten Texas universities and 344 insurance and risk management students since 2002.
