Texas Insurers Group Honors 26 Students with Spring Scholarships

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation awarded 26 students at five Texas universities, $21,000 in academic scholarships.

The students attend the University of Houston Downtown, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas Southern University in Houston, the University of Houston-Main campus and the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg.

The recognized students are either seeking a degree in insurance or risk management or taking courses in the subject.

Each student received a scholarship and will be invited to attend ICT’s annual Mid-Year Symposium in Austin on July 9, where insurance industry leaders gather to hear an update on the Texas marketplace. Each year, all Symposium corporate sponsorships and individual donations go to the ICT scholarships and school funding.

ICT scholarship recipients at the University of Houston Downtown, under Dr. Wendall Braniff, were Cory Lacy, Jovana Lopez, Malinda Beckham, Matthew Maxwell, Moises Ruiz, Rachel Depue, Theresa Epstein, Saul Hernandez and Julie Braun.

ICT scholarship recipients at the University of Texas at San Antonio, under Professor Ron Sweet, were Tim Breidenbach, Ryan Himmelberg, Charlotte Huso, Jesse Spriggs and Kalub Stutts.

ICT scholarship recipients at Texas Southern University, under Dr. Zahid Iqpal, were Prussia Clayton and Caleb Carr.

ICT scholarships at the University of Houston Main, under Professor Mack Rogers, were Kelli Evans, Douglas Ferman, Christen Sawyer, Elizabeth Tolmachoff and Krystal Villarreal.

ICT scholarships at the University of Texas Pan American, under Dr. K. Steven Lovell, were Alex Rocha, Amy Siefer, Daniel Padilla, Erik Diaz and Sofia Ayala.

Since 2002, the Insurance Council of Texas Education Foundation has awarded $778,500 to 11 Texas universities and 373 insurance and risk management students.
