Insurance Council of Texas Partners With Police For Crime Prevention Program

May 20, 2015

The Insurance Council of Texas has joined the Tomball Police Department in a crime prevention campaign aimed at preventing auto thefts and burglaries.

The program involves the creation and distribution of signs that read, “LOCK your car, TAKE your keys and HIDE your belongings.”

Tomball Police Chief Billy Tidwell said the LOCK, TAKE and HIDE program will be one of several crime prevention efforts that his community will utilize to prevent auto break-ins.

“It takes a combined effort of our officers and Tomball residents to help prevent criminals from vandalizing vehicles in our city,” Chief Tidwell said. “By working together, we can reduce these crimes by utilizing every crime fighting tool we have available. We are fortunate that the LOCK, TAKE, and HIDE signs will be one of them.”

Tidwell said the signs will be placed at shopping centers and large public and private parking areas such as city parks and apartment complexes.

“The signs should also serve as a reminder for everyone to be aware of their surroundings when they are leaving and entering their vehicle,” Insurance Council of Texas spokesman Mark Hanna said.

ICT initially started the crime prevention program in Austin in 2005, and has since begun similar programs in cities throughout Texas.
