ICT Symposium to Highlight Technological Advancements in Insurance

June 14, 2016

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) announced its Mid-Year Property and Casualty Insurance Symposium returns to Austin’s Sheraton Hotel on July 13 and 14. Evolve and Adapt, Insurance for the Next Generation is this year’s theme as symposium speakers will address technological advancements that are changing the insurance landscape.

The Symposium opens with a networking reception in the evening on July 13 at Sheraton’s Creekside. The full-day Symposium gets underway on July 14, with Dr. Bob Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, providing his analysis of the Texas and national insurance marketplace.

Hartwig will be followed by a panel discussion on the state’s catastrophic storm season and how the industry is having to adapt. The panel will consist of insurance officials representing small, medium and large companies.

Raghu Balasa of Exyn Technologies will wrap up the morning session with a look at the evolution of drones and their use in insurance.

The noon luncheon will feature ICT scholarship recipients as well as announcing the 2016 recipient of the Raymond Mauk Leadership award, which honors someone who has made a notable contribution to the Texas property and casualty insurance industry.

In the afternoon ICT Executive Director Albert Betts will be joined by Texas Insurance Commissioner David Mattax who will discuss how insurance regulation has been impacted by the changes in technology and the innovative insurance products that have recently been offered.

The Symposium is sponsored each year by the insurance industry and all of these funds go directly toward ICT’s Education Foundation that has provided academic funding to 10 Texas universities and more than 400 students studying insurance and risk management.
