Texas Southern, Huston-Tillotson Students Receive Insurance Council of Texas Scholarships

December 22, 2017

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) has awarded academic scholarships to two students at Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston and three students at Huston-Tillotson University (H-T) students in Austin. ICT honored these five students for their success in their universities’ insurance and risk management classes.

“These ICT scholarship recipients were recommended for scholarships by their insurance and risk management professors because they were among the best in their class and showed a keen interest in the property and casualty industry,” said Mark Hanna, an ICT spokesman said in a statement released by the insurance trade organization.

This month, ICT awarded scholarships to TSU’s Alicia Roberts and Maurisha Johnson, who were recommended by Adjunct Professor Gary Sylvester, and to H-T students Sorrel Mitchell, Porche Mitchell and Daniel Garza, who were recommended by Adjunct Professor Herman Askew.

Along with their scholarship, each student will have the opportunity to attend ICT’s Property and Casualty Symposium in Austin on July 12 and 13, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency. They will have an opportunity to network with industry leaders, hear from industry experts on the latest property and casualty issues, and participate in a Speed Interview and Network session with more than a dozen insurance companies who will be seeking potential new hires.

Earlier this year, ICT surpassed the $1 million mark in scholarships and academic funding for 12 Texas universities and nearly 500 students.
