30 Texas University Students Receive Insurance Council Scholarships

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation has awarded a total of $40,000 in academic scholarships to 30 students studying insurance and risk management at five Texas universities.

The students attend the University of Houston Main, the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the University of Houston Downtown.

Since 2002, ICT has awarded scholarships to more than 570 university students who have considered a career in property and casualty insurance. During this time, the ICT Education Foundation has awarded $1.15 million to students at 12 Texas universities and their insurance and risk management programs.

The scholarship program is a collaborative effort between ICT and universities, according to Tony Gonzalez, president of the ICT Education Foundation.

ICT scholarship recipients at the University of Houston Main, under adjunct professor Mack Rogers, were Alonte Fontenot, Amber Mixon, Briseyda Garduno, Jacob Montemayor and Marilyn Yi.

ICT scholarship recipients at the University of Texas at Dallas, under director Debra Richardson, were Stephanie White, Sean Kirwan, Alisha Elhassan, Zaarah Abbas, Britten Burchardt, Lydia Bordo, Antony Moyalan and Yasmeen Tayeb.

ICT scholarships recipients at the University of Texas at San Antonio, under adjunct professor Ron Sweet, were Sean Cato, Louis Garcia, Cody Prouse, Natalie Torresdey and Alondra Villarreal.

ICT scholarships recipients at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, under professor Kenneth Lovell, were Jose Silva, David Ornelas, Arrisa Walensky, Jesus Alvarado and Jennifer Dominguez.

ICT scholarships recipients at the University of Houston Downtown, under director Priscilla Oehlert, were Bryan Sanders, Carmelo Cancino, Cassandra Cadriel, Jennifer Calandra, Jose Melchor, Jose Salinas and Michael Pearson.

In addition, ICT also offers its scholarship recipients the opportunity to attend ICT’s 27th Annual Property and Casualty Symposium at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Austin, July 11 and 12. At the Symposium, scholarship recipients can participate in ICT’s Annual Speed Interview and Network Session where more than 20 companies, seeking job applicants, will interview the scholarship students.
